Method
Prepare the Chicken
- Pat the chicken pieces dry with paper towels and season with salt and black pepper.
Make the Wet Batter
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, buttermilk, egg, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper until smooth.
Heat the Oil
- In a deep fryer or large pot, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
Coat and Fry the Chicken
- Dip each piece of chicken into the wet batter, allowing excess to drip off, then carefully place in the hot oil.
- Fry the chicken for about 10-15 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F or 74°C).
Drain and Serve
- Remove the chicken from the oil and place on a wire rack or paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot.
