  • 2 Tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract or vanilla bean paste
  • pink gel food coloring
Frosting Ingredients
  • 2 cups unsalted butter room temperature
  • 1 cup cream cheese room temperature
  • 1 Tbsp vanilla extract or vanilla bean paste
  • 1 tsp fine salt
  • 11 cups powdered sugar
  • 0.25 cup heavy whipping cream room temperature
  • pink gel food coloring

Method
 

Cake Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to the appropriate temperature.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the cake flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and fine salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream together the unsalted butter until fluffy.
  4. Gradually add the egg whites to the creamed butter, mixing well.
  5. Alternate adding the buttermilk and the dry ingredients, starting and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  6. Add vegetable oil, vanilla extract, and pink gel food coloring. Mix until well incorporated.
  7. Pour the batter into prepared cake pans and smooth the tops.
  8. Bake in the oven for 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  9. Allow the cakes to cool completely before frosting.
Frosting Preparation
  1. For the frosting, beat together the unsalted butter and cream cheese until smooth.
  2. Add vanilla extract and fine salt, mixing well.
  3. Gradually add powdered sugar and heavy whipping cream, mixing until the frosting is fluffy.
  4. Color the frosting with pink gel food coloring as desired.
  5. Frost the cooled cake layers as desired.
