Ingredients

Meat and Vegetables
  • 1 lb ground beef can substitute with ground turkey
  • 1 cup onion diced
  • 1 cup green bell pepper diced
  • 1 cup celery diced
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
Rice and Seasoning
  • 2 cups long-grain white rice uncooked
  • 4 cups beef broth or water
  • 2 tbsp cajun seasoning
  • 1 tsp black pepper freshly ground
  • 1 tsp salt to taste
Optional Garnish
  • 2 tbsp green onions sliced, for garnish

Method

Cooking the Meat and Vegetables
  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef until fully cooked. Drain excess fat.
  2. Add the diced onion, green bell pepper, celery, and minced garlic to the skillet. Sauté until the vegetables are tender, about 5 minutes.
Cooking the Rice
  1. Stir in the uncooked rice, beef broth, cajun seasoning, black pepper, and salt. Bring to a boil.
  2. Once boiling, reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 20 minutes or until rice is cooked and liquid is absorbed.
Finishing Touches
  1. Remove from heat and let sit covered for 5 minutes. Fluff the rice with a fork and garnish with sliced green onions if desired.
